Philly People’s Budget May Day Action

May 1, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join us on International Workers Day in solidarity with essential workers demanding a People’s Budget for Philadelphia!
Budgets are moral documents — they reveal what our city prioritizes and cares about. This year, let’s use our collective power to support each other, our essential workers, and the leaders on the frontlines of gun violence prevention. Join us to demand that the city of Philadelphia adopt the People’s Budget, where community, our youth, our elders, and workers, are prioritized.
There is a deep history of police using violence to interfere with and dismantle movements to protect labor rights, movements to protect Black lives, and movements to protect undocumented folks. Repeatedly showing us that police are not there to keep us safe. They were literally created to extinguish people powered movements fighting against slavery, white supremacy, corporate greed, and all forms of structural oppression. Yet, the Mayor’s proposed budget allocates more than $725million for the Philadelphia Police Department…
Our communities deserve to thrive! The People’s Budget demands full funding of our parks, our schools, our libraries, our rec centers, affordable housing, and community-based mental health and gun violence prevention programs that create pathways to real community safety and prosperity.
Join us on Saturday, May 1st at LOVE Park for the Philadelphia People’s Budget May Day Action!
We’ll start with a march at 12pm. And at 1:30pm, we’ll hold a community rally with incredible speakers, performers, and artists from across our beautiful city. We will also have resource tables connecting community members with the vital services they need. We will also have information about how to sign up to testify at upcoming City Council Hearings.
Who protects us? WE protect us!
