135 years ago, tens of thousands of workers walked off their jobs and took to the streets, despite everything, to oppose the brutality of American capitalism-imperialism. 16-hour work days and child labor were common. In some industries, life expectancy for workers was as low as their early twenties! All to line the pockets of the ruling class!
In response, police fired into the crowds and gunned down hundreds of striking workers. Although the Haymarket bomber was never identified, eight workers were convicted, not because of crimes they committed, but because of their social and political beliefs! Four of these workers were executed.
Nothing has changed. The ruling class abuses us. They profit off our suffering. Tens of millions of workers are one bad month away from eviction and homelessness. Most of us have no healthcare. Many of us cannot afford to eat! They bomb black and brown people across the world and use the IMF and World Bank to force American financial interests onto workers outside of the imperial core!
On International Worker’s Day, we honor the fight of workers on the first May Day in 1886 and take to the streets to continue the struggle against capitalism, yankee imperialism, white supremacy, and fascism!
The workers united will never be divided! Oppose capitalism! Oppose racism! Oppose fascism!
This May Day, we will march from the historic courthouse to city hall and then to city park for a community event and potluck. Bring your signs! Bring your red flags! Bring your anger!
Meet at the courthouse at 4 pm. We will begin the march at around 4:15.
